Boyhood Organized Sports and The Construction Of Masculinites

Before reading this article the thought that came to my head is males at young ages see older males in either their family, or their neighborhood playing sports so they want to do the same. As I Read I Seen How Me & The Author Felt The Same Way through His Reaserch. Then as I read a line that caught my eye was when Zane Grey stated," All boys love baseball. If they don't they're not real boys" The sense of judgement is not surprising at all because when it comes to sports all types of people whether its young kids, old people, middle aged people can get REALLY competitive and say the craziest things. Growing up I seen that males play sports but my all time favorite is basketball, when I played with males they felt the need to try to "take it easy on me" which was never needed because when it came to that sport I was just as rough as the boys. But when it came to a certain age and certain circumstances I gave up on sports , males necessarily don't do that. Its like as if males feel pressured and feel the need to use their masculinity to show how much of man they are. Or just how tough they are on the field or the court. Certain Males Use sport as a way of getting out of bad situations such as family problems so they use they time away from home very active , or some use it because they feel as if that's the only way to get out of a bad situation like for example if they have to be the man of the house at an early age so they take to sports because their well at it and some Ogf them with their talents succeed !!

Race ;

“Race Matters” was a perfect title for the reading. Actually shows just how much race matters. This reading came off VERY offensive to me for various reasons. It just made me look at society a whole different way. Why is racism still around but most people are so blind to the fact. Blacks from long time in history to now are treated like crap and society tries to be so oblivious to it, or feel if they don’t feel as if they are being singled out then It’s okay. This is WRONG because discrimination supposedly stopped many years ago, but people are just so stuck in their ways. Discrimination is wrong in various ways. When it comes to discriminating because of someone’s income or color or education is senseless. Senseless because you don’t know they story, so from the beginning your judging a person by the outside not getting to know them. This is silly because even if a person looks nothing like you deep down inside they just might be just like you. Society has a way of judging people for various races. But the ones they give the most problems too in my eyes seem to be the blacks and Hispanics
